Utah’s Mighty 5, by RV

Five national parks, one state, and roads built long before anyone pictured a 30-foot motorhome. Each park handles big rigs differently. Zion limits large vehicles on one of its highways, and at Bryce some popular overlook parking is off-limits to longer vehicles during shuttle hours. Several campgrounds have no hookups at all.

Plan your trip

Four steps before you book anything

Renting for the first time? Start here. Doing these in order saves you from booking a rig that can’t take the route you wanted.

Measure the rig, all of it

Get the real length, width, height and weight. Include the AC unit, bike racks, tires and mirrors, because Zion counts those too. Tape the numbers to your dash.

Match rig to parks

Check each park’s campground and road limits against your numbers. Our parks guide links every official NPS page.

Book the moment windows open

Arches opens reservations six months out at 10 a.m. Eastern. Some campgrounds are first-come, first-served and fill early in spring and fall. Have a backup campground near each park.

Ask your rental company

  • Exact height & length, accessories included?
  • Are dirt roads allowed?
  • Generator, mileage & pet rules?
  • Roadside assistance number?
